ACTION TIP: Walking Backwards
Start Aging Intelligently today, one step at a time.
Just before you eat:
Find someplace that you can walk backwards safely: a hallway, outside in the parking lot, or any open space like a conference room. And walk backwards. Slowly. You can use your hands to reach out so you don’t bump into anything or anyone. Keep your eyes open, but try not to look behind you. You can even walk backwards one way, then frontwards, back & forth.
Walking backwards is hard. At first. Then you get used to it. Like everything else. It’s novelty for your brain, and your brain loves new experiences. It also increases your spacial awareness. And that helps balance.
Only then, eat.
This adds a habit you already do (eating) to a habit that you want to form (novelty for the brain, spacial awareness and balance).
Aging Intelligently is a process and a practice.
