How Water Creates Health
Most people think that they drink enough water, but when measured, they find that they drink significantly less than they think. We have the same misconception about thirst. We think we need water only when we feel thirsty, but that’s the last, desperate sign that we are dehydrating. Long before that, we need water.
Our bodies are about 75% water, and that maintenance level regulates all body functions: respiratory, brain, digestive, circulatory, and lymph system, which is the sewer system of the body, whisking away dead cells, inflammation residue, and pollution. We lose water through the lymph, urine, perspiration, and breathing. Are you drinking enough water?
Not only are we dependent on water, but we survive and thrive on it, according to Your Body’s Many Cries For Water, by Freydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D, a world authority on the health effects of water. We cannot manufacture water, so it must be replaced daily. Sitting in a swimming pool won’t do it, nor will coffee, tea, alcohol, or soda. Those have diuretic properties, and we don’t absorb water from swimming pools. Sad that some people think we do.
A grape filled with water is plump. A grape without water is a raisin. Your body functions the same way. Are your lungs grapes or raisins? If your brain does not get enough blood flow (a water based system), your clarity of thinking is compromised, and you feel fatigued. When you are really tired, have a large glass of water and see if you feel better. If you perk up, it means your body was dehydrated. You need more water.
Other health issues associated with insufficient hydration include urinary tract infections, high blood pressure, digestive orders, joint and muscle pain, asthma, headaches, insomnia, memory loss, dizziness, and premature aging and wrinkles. Who wants a prune for a face?
Cramping in the legs and feet can be alleviated by drinking a glass of water. Weird, huh? As we age, we lose our perception of water, allowing for more dehydration. Experts suggests drinking, in ounces, half your weight in water. If you weigh 120 pounds, drink 60 ounces of water a day. What’s the worst that can happen if you drink that much water? You will have to pee more? Big deal, find bathrooms or bushes. With adequate water intake, you will feel more energetic, think better, focus longer, keep your skin youthful and elastic, and decrease pain.
That’s Aging Intelligently.
