A Little Spot of Paradise: Vanuatu
The doorbell rang. It was the mailman, with a package. “It’s my package from Vanatutu” (pronounced Van-a-tu-tu), I said.
“Do you mean Vanuatu” (Van-u-a-tu), he replied. I was surprised that he knew the correct pronunciation, which I didn’t, and the fact that it is an independent South Sea Island. The country of Vanuatu. Off Australia. Sandalwood production. Tourism. Blue skies, warm weather.
“How do you know the pronunciation?” I asked.
“Survivor”, he replied. I thought Survivor was just a somewhat silly reality show. Turns out, they film in remote parts of the world. Kudos to them, and I just learned something. Correct pronunciation and geography from my mailman.
Here’s why I know about Vanuatu: some of the best sandalwood products come from there. The literature supports that smelling and dermal applying pure, unadulterated essential oil sandalwood increases mental clarity, boosts memory, may lower blood pressure, is antiviral, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging. The essential oil from Vanuatu smells like perfect happiness, their skin care products are chemical free. Vanuatu service is extraordinary (we should all take lessons from them), and the island people are beautiful.
If you want good, healthy skin, buy the products of the people who have great skin. Drugstore products are good when you are 20. But you are not 20 anymore, are you? I don’t need to look older than I am. I am told I look younger. I choose to believe it. No Botox for me. You want to inject poison into my face? Hell no! Facelift? Sharp knife near my face? Nope. That’s my opinion. You can do what you like.
For thousands of years, people have been using nature’s products on their skin. And aging beautifully. It has only been lately that we obsess over youthful looking skin at all costs. I don’t want to look 20 when I’m 50, nor do I want to look 70. Youth is a gift, so is aging.
Aging Intelligently takes money for exercise and movement opportunities, or bikes and good fitting running shoes, and clothes that fit well. It takes education, participation in social events, and friendship, to keep your brain functioning, and new neurons forming. Last I looked, none of that was cheap. Statistics show that people who dress well, stand erect, and talk in full sentences get treated better in life.
Appearance isn’t everything, but it’s something. Aging well: mentally sharp, physically strong, emotionally stable. Not bad looking! And keep learning, even from your mailman.
That’s Aging Intelligently.
