Is There a Pill for Aging?

Aging Intelligently isn’t for everyone. The general population knows they should do something, but…….maybe later. It’s work, and as the years progress, we don’t want to work that hard. We want to slow down, take it easy, chill out. Having to pay attention to how we treat our body means having to pay attention all the time. To everything. Sheesh, when do we get to rest? What happened to retirement?

Here’s good news: the sooner we stop ignoring the fact that we are aging, and recognize that it isn’t awful, the sooner we can enjoy ourselves, chill out and relax. Aging has a price that we haven’t paid before. Staying out late and not getting enough sleep, and drinking a tiny bit too much doesn’t feel the same as it did when we were 22 and invincible.  Eating whatever we want has consequences with our waistline. It’s such an effort to exercise, even walking. Isn’t that why we have cars? Then there’s all those pills we now have to take: heart pills, cholesterol, blood pressure, 1/2 aspirin, and sleep aids. We didn’t take those either, when we were 22.

Age is change. Things are different now, not awful, just different. It’s no better or worse than hormone rage as a teenager. We can’t afford to slouch, sitting at the computer, texting, or watching the news. We need to move. We need to move everything: spine, legs, head, eyes, fingers and toes. And we need to move everything every day.

That’s the big secret to aging. Keep moving. Keep thinking like a vibrant, healthy person who treats their body like it’s something to be honored and taken care of. Aging Intelligently is thinking young, moving more, letting go of the endless minutia of life, learning from your past but living in the present, and brightening someone else’s day. And for that, there are no pills.
